Nikka Yoichi 10 Year Old Single Malt Japanese Whisky – 70cl 45%

This peated single malt is distilled at Yoichi distillery in Hokkaido, the home of Nikka Whisky. The 10 year old was part of the core range from the Yoichi distillery until it was discontinued in 2015. It was then relaunched in late 2022, and bottled at a strength of 45% abv. This lively and herbaceous 10 year old whisky comes from Nikka's first distillery: Yoichi, which is located on the coast of Hokkaido, the northernmost island of Japan. It has been made using traditional methods, i.e. direct toasting over coal fires, which gives the malts a unique and authentic character with marine and fine peaty notes. This 10 year old version has a nice maturity, with roundness and a balanced peatiness thanks to the woody and herbaceous nuances. Tasting notes Colour: bright gold Nose: very fresh and herbaceous, fruity notes soften the first nose. The discreet peat allows the full expression of the aromatic palette. Pastry aromas emanate when it is left to air. Palate: lively and fluid, with peppery notes that refresh the palate. This is followed by a custardy flavour, which gives it a nice roundness. The peatiness fades away. Finish: the finish is long and dry with notes of damp earth that balance the woody flavours. Awarded at the World Whiskies Awards in 2002 and 2008.
